Chuck Todd: Rick Santorum ‘Best Represents’ Republicans

‘I think Santorum best represents them, understands their issues better, but I don’t know if he’ll find the oxygen’

CHUCK TODD: There are sort of three categories of Republican candidates, you have people who have been deemed ‘frontrunners,’ or potential nominees. Rubio, Walker, Bush, Rand Paul is sort of right on the cusp there.

Second tier, good candidates, one of whom you expect to pop in. And then you have the vanity candidates.

Vanity candidates are sucking up, are going to suck up Oxygen. Which is going to hurt Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, makes it harder for Rick Perry, these guys who want to get back into the first tier, that is their challenge.

But if you look at today’s Republican Party, who makes up of it, the rank and file. I think Rick Santorum better represents them than anybody else. Better represents this new working class Republican voter.

By the way, they were for Bill Clinton in 1992, split between Ross Perot and Bill Clinton.

I think Santorum best represents them, understands their issues better, but I don’t know if he’ll find the oxygen.
