Dr. Saphier on COVID-19: ‘Biggest Concerns Are Decreasing the Spread and Getting Some Treatments’

‘Far majority of people with flu-like symptoms are not getting tested for the flu’

RUSH EXCERPT:

SAPHIER: “Far majority of people with flu-like symptoms are not getting tested for the flu. Many had influenza a or influenza B or even a rhino virus, all different viruses that cause flu-like symptoms. Is it possible there were isolated travel related cases of covid-19 in the United States earlier on? Absolutely. It is not probable that there were millions of people already infected. All of the evidence points to the beginning of covid-19 in early November in seafood market area, Wuhan, China, and that it escalated from there. In the beginning, far majority of people that came not United States with covid-19 it was around the time of the Chinese lunar new year when the most people are traveling. I think ramp up of people came just after the new year. It is hard to say. It is possible there were a few isolated travel-related cases. We won’t know until we test people for antibodies to see who was exposed and who hasn’t. Maybe a lot of people with flu-like symptoms had to be hospitalized, they had to give blood. That blood was stored. I wonder if they give tests in the too ture to test the blood if they had covid-19 or anti-bodies were there at the time. These are things taking place. They may not be making headlines a the love research will be put into this right now. A lot of concerns are decreasing the spread, getting treatments for now.”
