Tom Steyer: ‘When I See People Living on $7.25, It Hurts Me’
EXCERPT:
STEYER: “I’m doing this because I care, and I’ve worked for decades on economic justice, racial justice and environmental justice. I really care to start a state of emergency on climate on day one. I care about that. That’s not something I’m talking about to get votes. That’s something I’m doing because that’s in my heart. I care about reparations for slavery because I’ve worked on racial justice for, you know, over decades. And I care about it. When I see people living on $7.25, it hurts me. I listen to what they can’t afford. I listen to people dying because of lack of health care. I’m in this because I care about the issues, and I’m trying to talk to people directly and listen to them and push for the things that really are in my heart."
