Students at a Utah charter school crowned a transgender classmate prom queen.

Maka Brown, the ecstatic 18-year-old senior at the Salt Lake School for Performing Arts, is believed to be the state’s first openly trans student to hold the honor, according to KUTV-TV.

Saturday night’s dance in downtown Salt Lake City had Brown in a sea foam dress with her hair curled, not realizing she was about to be selected prom queen.
