Mitt Romney is currently putting on a master class for winning media adoration. The lesson is relatively easy for anyone to follow:

Step 1: Get power

Step 2: Use that power to try removing Trump from office

Step 3: Bask in media adulation!

While Utah’s rookie Republican senator says he voted to convict President Trump on the first impeachment article — abuse of power — out of his own personal conviction, the effect had the helpful side effect of scoring media props.

As Romney closed his remarks on the Senate floor, he was already being showered with media veneration.

“Wow,” CNN’s Brooke Baldwin exclaimed. “That was extraordinary. That was pure honesty and emotion from Mitt Romney.”

MSNBC’s Brian Williams immediately pronounced the 4-minute speech “historic.”

His NBC colleague, Garrett Haake, remarked that Romney unlocked his “super power”: “Swearing an oath before God for Mitt Romney is like unlocking his super power … This was a moment that people who’ve known Mitt Romney for a long time have always thought he was capable of.”

Another MSNBC contributor, Jon Meacham, likened Romney to the heroic prince from Hamlet: “He’s a little like Fortinbras in Act V of Hamlet, right?”

Lawmakers also got in on the Romney reverence. Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) said the speech brought tears to her eyes: “When I heard him explain with such elegance and simplicity, tears came to my eyes.”

And that’s just a small sampling. For more, check out the montage above.
