Rep. Barbara Lee: I Went to Mexico To Get a ‘Back Alley Abortion’

LEE: "Now, fighting for equitable access to abortion is deeply personal for me, and I do and it’s hard to talk about this, but I think today I’ll mention it again. I remember very clearly the days of back alley abortions before Roe versus Wade. I was a teenager, only 16 years old, and had to go to Mexico for a gut-wrenching, back alley abortion. Again, before Roe versus Wade. Abortions were not safe nor legal in my own country. So I refuse to stand by and see even one more woman’s life put in danger because of lack of access to safe and legal abortions.”
