Heritage’s Nile Gardiner: ‘Brexit Is Inevitable’

GARDINER: "Well, first, I have to say Richard Branson has a great airline, Virgin Atlantic. However, I think what he is saying there about Brexit damaging the British economy is complete nonsense. And actually, his own company has done very well in the Brexit era, and will do even better, I think, once Brexit is implemented. I think you do have a lot of business, very wealthy business elites who are against Brexit but the reality is that if you canvas opinion among a lot of small businesses in the U.K., they’re very much in favor of Brexit. I think there is a broader acceptance within the business community in the United Kingdom, that Brexit is going to happen, that it will be reality. There's no point for Richard Branson to swim against the tide here. Brexit, I think, is inevitable. Ironically, his own businesses have actually done very well over the last 3 1/2 years. I think Virgin Atlantic in particular will do very, very well, in the Brexit era, especially if there is a U.S.-U.K. free trade deal in place."
