Ryan Zinke on Lowering Standards for Military: ‘We Need To Do the Opposite’

‘We need to raise the bar and have a smaller, smarter force’

MORRIS: "Secretary of Defense Ash Carter is looking to ease up on those military enlisting requirements including drug and criminal past. Is this a good idea? Let's ask former Navy Seal, Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke. Nice to see you this morning congressman."

ZINKE: "Good to be here. Always a pleasure."

MORRIS: "What do you make of these new restrictions, this lowering or easing of military requirements?"

ZINKE: "Well, we are contracting our military. We had forces in the Navy around 1917. Pre-World War II is the glide slope for our forces. Now it's not the time to lower the standards. We have a smaller force which demands a greater amount of responsibility so I think we need to do the opposite. I think we need to raise the bar because we have a smaller force."
