Rep. Ellison: Islamic State Is Not ‘Islamic’ Anymore than the KKK Is ‘Christian’

‘Killing people the way they do, beheading them, beheading non-combatants is the anti-thesis of what it means to be Muslim or what’s in the Koran’

QUESTION: "The Atlantic Magazine [indecipherable] recently wrote that the Islamic State is Islamic, and that the religion preached by their most ardent followers derives from [indecipherable] interpretation of Islam. Do you agree that Islamic State is Islamic?"
ELLISON: "I do not agree. It’s as Islamic as the Ku Klux Klan is Christian, right. It is, of course, you know, the Ku Klux Klan uses Christian rhetoric, they throw crosses around. But what person going to church on any given Sunday recognizes that as their faith? And so, that’s the same way that I believe that ISIS is Islamic. I can tell you that I go to Mosque every Friday and I go all over this country and meet Muslims every day, and all of them look at ISIS with tremendous horror. And, by the way, ISIS kills Muslims more than anybody else. So Islam says murder is absolutely forbidden. So like Christianity, and the Christian societies [indecipherable]... proven to be guilty for the most heinous crime like murder. Killing people the way they do, beheading them, beheading non-combatants is the anti-thesis of what it means to be Muslim or what's in the Koran."
