MATTHEWS: "How do you do it?"

BUTTIGIEG: "That’s what the commission ought to work out. But there's no way you can do it without putting dollar resources behind it. Now, the right can’t wait to caricature this as a check in the mail that they say would be unfair."

MATTHEWS: "But we did it with Japanese Americans."

BUTTIGIEG: "That’s right, and there can be ways of doing this that are fair or at least bring us to a more just reality than the one we’re living in right now."
