Jayapal Admits Her Medicare for All Bill Would Kill One Million Private Insurance Jobs

‘There’s about a million people we think will be displaced if Medicare for All happens’

JAYAPAL: "But I think that’s very important. And then the other thing I want to say is, there are a lot of people who work in the private insurance industry. We have thought very carefully about how we take care of those folks because we think they’re very important. And so there’s about a million people that we think will be displaced if Medicare-for-all happens. We have set aside one percent a year of the total cost of the bill for five years to take care of a transition for those employees and the private insurance sector, so that they can either — if they’re, you know, able to retire, that might be one, pension guarantees, job training. They can move into a different system."
