Barbara Boxer on Shutdown: McConnell Is a ‘Complicit Little Coward’

‘He agreed to put that aside, Rush Limbaugh told him no, so he got into this jam’

EXCERPT:

BOXER: "Well, clearly, Mitch McConnell is the key. There are two people responsible for the shutdown at this very moment. And by the way, it's a emergency. Not 800,000 people affected, million. When you figure their families, when you figure the private sector, when you figure the multiplier effect of all those paychecks not going into the bank and being spent in the community. So it's a disaster. Now, the two people responsible, Donald Trump, because he could not successfully come through with this campaign promise that mexico would pay for the wall. He agreed to put that aside, Rush Limbaugh told him 'no,' so he got into this jam and he said he would be delighted to embrace the shutdown. It is his. Then you have Mitch McConnell, I served with him for many years, he's tough and strong. All of a sudden, he's this little complicit coward and saying I'm not doing anything until the President tells us what he wants. That is even unconstitutional. We are a separate branch of Government. So if Mitch McConnell is getting off the sidelines, and you know what it means, allowing a vote to reopen the Government and putting off this battle over the best way to do border security. We will be just fine, but do it already. And all these diversions of turning this into a Pelosi/Trump battle — that's a diversion. Turning it into, let's look at North Korea, and another meeting with another tyrant. So what? Open up the Government. Open it up."
