John Brennan: ISIS Is ‘By No Means Defeated’

‘This is very typical of the Trump Administration, it is policy by tweet’

EXCERPT:

MITCHELL: "So, first of all, have we defeated ISIS? Is the war over? Mission accomplished?"
BRENNAN: "No, we have destroy a lot of it, because of some very had work by the United States and our partner forces over the last several years, but it's not destroyed. It still has a presence in the eastern part of Syria as well as western Iraq. It has gone to the ground, but it is by no means defeated completely. And that's why this decision, whatever the decision is, it is still unclear the magnitude of it, has I think two dimensions. One is the practical impact. What does it do as far as to the day-to-day cooperation between the American forces and our Kurdish allies, the YPG, which has been the militia that's been responsible for much of the progress made against ISIS. But the second part of this is, what is the political signal that it's sending to our partners and allies as well as to the Russians, to the Iranians, that still have a presence in Syria, to Assad, as well as to the Turks. And we know that there is concern among the Kurdish militia that the Turks may in fact move against them, because of the relationship between the YPG and the PKK, which is the Kurdish organization, paramilitary organization that has caused problems for Turkey."
