President Obama and a high-powered U.S. diplomatic delegation landed in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to pay respects to the memory of one king and to meet his successor.

The president and a bipartisan group that includes some of his Republican critics traveled to Riyadh a week after the death of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz.

The visit gives Obama and aides a chance to "touch base on some of the issues where we're working together with the Saudis," said National Security Council spokesman Ben Rhodes.
