Boyd Matheson: ‘Both Parties Are Guilty of Weaponizing the Oversight Process’

‘I think this was an early on transition thing, but there are far more important things that we should be talking about and focusing on as a country moving forward’

EXCERPT:

MATHESON: "I think we have to be very careful. The sad part of all of this is that both parties are guilty of weaponizing the oversight process. It’s important, what happens in the congressional oversight does matter. But unfortunately, we weaponized it so we’re doing a lot of political witch hunts, and gotcha games, and tit for tat kind of things that aren’t helpful, that literally waste millions of dollars of taxpayer money to go after things that don’t matter, while ignoring some of the things that do. We have to really step back. I would hope the Democrats would learn from the mistakes the Republicans made when they had the gavel and some of the things they chased and really get about the people’s business. The other thing that’s important to note is, Ivanka Trump has a very unique position. She’s probably more influential than any first child ever, in terms of real policy. I think that’s getting lost. She was the one who, with Democrat, worked to make sure the child tax credit was part of the tax package last year. She’s working right now to make sure criminal justice reform gets through and everybody should be pressuring Mitch McConnell to make sure that happens. So she is doing some important work there in the White House. I think this was an early on transition thing, but there are far more important things that we should be talking about and focusing on as a country moving forward."
