Obama Likens His Previewing SOTU Speech to Opening Christmas Presents Early

‘I didn’t want to wait for the State of the Union to talk about the things that make this country great and how we can make it better’

"[America’s resurgence is real.] Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. We’ve got the best cards and we are doing better than just about anybody else on earth. And now that we’ve got some calmer waters, now that the worst of the crisis is behind us, if we all do our part, if we all pitch in, then we can make sure that this rising tide is actually lifting all the boats, not just some. We can make sure that the middle-class is the engine that powers American prosperity for decades to come. And that's going to be the focus of my State of the Union address in a couple of weeks: building on the progress that we’ve already made. But I’ve got to admit, I only have two years left in office, I didn’t want to wait for the State of the Union to talk about all the things that make this country great and how we can make it better. So I thought I’d get started this week. (Cheering and Applause) And I've figured why wait? It's like opening the Christmas presents little early."
