Fmr. Assistant Sec. Def: Opening Up with Cuba Will Cause Regime To ‘Fall More Quickly’

‘I’m with the president on this’

"What is clear is that Cuba continues to have a very poor human rights record and how they -- it’s still one of the last communist regimes on the face of the Earth. There is a concern Republicans are going to go after that, but quite frankly, in this case, I believe this is a 50-year policy that has been a complete failure.

And with the president on this to try to move this forward --I always believed by opening up with Cuba, the communist regime would fall more quickly. So I think this is a good step, but he's going to face some tough questioning and see what he can get in return from the Cubans in the next stage of negotiations to try to get a better return, but I think he's moving in the right direction."
