Joy Behar on Colin Kapaernick Criticism: ‘It’s Against the First Amendment’

‘It’s not just Nike, it’s corporations taking a stand against injustice and things wrong in the country’

EXCERPT:

GOLDBERG: “We were talking about the new Nike campaign featuring Kaepernick.”
BEHAR: “Well you know, I'd like to point out that last year Tiffany and company came out in support of the Paris climate agreement. Starbucks agreed to hire refugees. Apple and Facebook spoke out against the immigration ban, so it’s not just Nike; it’s corporations taking a stand against injustice and things that are wrong in the country. And I think it’s important to do that. I mean, yes they will lose some business, but they’ll gain business, as she just pointed out."
GOLDBERG: "Yeah."
HUNTSMAN: “I will tell you every family if not most of the country was talking about this last night at their dinner table. And it's one word, there really isn't a lot of gray area. You’re on one side of this issue or you're on the other. And what I worry about when we talk about it is if you’re on the side of feeling like it’s disrespectful to kneel during the anthem that somehow you’re racist, that somehow you're not in favor of bettering this country and finding equality and common ground. I think there’s a better way to talk about it as Americans, to say how can we just -- how can we make progress? It’s one thing to talk about it. And I agree with you that we are talking about it, but how do we turn that into action?” [crosstalk]
GOLDBERG: "No, it's not racist."
BEHAR: “Can I ust say one small thing? It’s not racist. It’s against the First Amendment. That’s my position.”
