U.S. Amb. to the U.K. on Trump’s NATO Comments: He Knows You Get Peace Through Strength

‘That’s why the American people voted him in’

RUSH EXCERPT:

JOHNSON: "I think he knows that you get peace through strength and just kind of limping along here. Having a strong and united Europe through NATO is something he’s always been in favor of, but the funding has been sporadic and most nations haven’t lived up to the 2% minimum agreement that they all signed. The U.K. Is an exception to that and they have been spending the 2%, and they should probably go a little higher as well, but at least they are meeting their commitment, and that’s why they are such a valuable ally to the U.S."
MacCALLUM: "The Wall Street journal,” President Trump’s plan to change the world. A lot of discussion about the fact that he’s breaking down these post-World War II Marshall plan norms that we have all lived under it and saying maybe that’s not the way we should do things now."
JOHNSON: "I think that’s why the American people voted him in. They knew they had somebody that was willing to look at things differently, particularly some of these long-term deals that have been in place for 20, 30, 40 years. They obviously need a fresh look. And nobody really had courage to do that because there are certain risks to doing any of that and why would you spend your presidency trying to look at these old agreements? But I think his rationale is that it helps the American people and it helps us through both security and prosperity, and he talks about jobs, jobs, jobs. A lot of these agreements, and his opinion, have led to the jobs leaving the country and going elsewhere, and he wants to bring those jobs back. And so he is taking a hard look at these trade arrangements, defense arrangements, I think, and it’s great."
