Bill Richardson: It Looks Like the N. Korea Summit Will Take Place

‘Both leaders need it and the international community needs it because you want dramatically less tension in the Korean peninsula’

EXCERPT:

SMITH: "Governor, the president seemed really optimistic last night at that -- that speech he gave at the rally. We have a great team together for our talks with North Korea. We are moving along nicely, says the president. So maybe put the date and exact timing of this aside, what do you think are the actual chances of this -- this summit taking place and those two world leaders getting together and sitting down?"
RICHARDSON: "Well, it looks like the summit will take place, and I said that it is because both leaders need it and the international community needs it because you want dramatically less tension in the Korean peninsula. I think the issue is going to be will it happen June the 12th. Look, I don’t think that looks should be criticized if it doesn’t happen then. If a few more weeks are needed, let’s do that. If the Pompeo meeting with the North Korean doesn’t turn out well and you need more negotiating -- you know, we have people in North Korea, our nuclear experts, logistical experts are there. There are a lot of good meetings going on. So you know, don’t spoil it by rushing into a situation where you don’t come out with a good outcome at that summit."
