Earnest: There Will Be ‘Extensive Discussions’ About How Things Are Going To Change

‘The truth is the elections obviously didn’t turn out exactly the way the president had hoped’

BRZEZINSKI: "’Numb’ and ‘unrepentant’ are some of the words used to describe the president. I’m not sure I saw that, but I would like to ask you, if it’s possible the president is a little disappointed with members of his own party today?"

EARNEST: "Well, Mika, I mean, the truth is the elections obviously didn’t turn out exactly the way the president had hoped, but I think it was pretty clear from the president comments in the east room yesterday that he believes the American people have spoken and the question is whether Democrats and Republicans are going to hear the message that voters sent, which is, they’re ready for their leaders in Washington, D.C. to stop spending so much time fighting over politics and ideology and actually start focusing on where common ground exists to make progress on behalf of middle class families all across the country."

BRZEZINSKI: "So what’s going to change?"

EARNEST: "Well, I think that’s going to be the subject of extensive discussion when the president sits down with the sixteen highest ranking members of Congress on Friday here at the White House. The president invited them to start talking through some of the important issues the Congress needs to start working on both over the course of the next couple months, but also in the next couple of years. And the president wants to see -- the president has got some ideas. He has got a pretty long agenda and at the same time president’s eager to hear from them. We’re eager to see what the Republican agenda is, what are the Republican priorities. And I’m confident if we take a close look at their agenda and close look at the president's agenda, we’re not going to agree on everything. In fact, we may not even agree on most things. But I think the question in the minds of a lot of voters is, are you going to make progress on the things where there is agreement."

SCARBOROUGH: "Yeah, where you can find common ground."
