Monday’s Morning Joe panel roundly criticized Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis’ new ad that prominently displays a wheelchair, a reference to opponent Greg Abbott’s debilitating injury. The ad criticized Abbott, who received a large settlement after a falling tree branch paralyzed him, for championing legislation thatlimits awards on legal settlements, though the ad’s hypocrisy argument is getting drowned out by its visuals.

The ad already got the “Even liberal MSNBC…” treatment from an Up with Steve Kornacki segment this weekend, but the Morning Joe crew was even harsher, with cohost Mika Brzezinski saying she “cringed” watching it, professor Dorian Warren predicting it would depress Davis’ desperately-needed voter turnout, and John Heilemann wondering if Davis, a rising star in Texas Democratic politics, might lose even worse than her predecessor Bill White.
