EXCERPT:

SCARBOROUGH: "Some of the things he said were true, some of them were false, some were just flat-out lies. Job growth was faster under Barack Obama over seven years, seven years after the collapse than it was last year under Donald Trump’s first year. Wage growth was faster under Barack Obama if you adjust for inflation, or maybe about the same. Even the stock market, the S&P grew faster under Barack Obama than it did under Donald Trump. Again, I’m not saying the economy is bad. We’re in a pretty good spell right now. But this is after seven years of climbing out of a bad situation. And again, there aren’t a lot of areas, are there, where Donald Trump has a record that exceeds Barack Obama’s."
RATTNER: "No. Look, first of all, it’s too early for any president to say — this president himself is responsible for what happened over the past year. I think if the economy hadn’t done well, Donald Trump would have gotten up there and blamed Barack Obama. He wouldn’t have said, 'Well, I had a bad first year.' He would have said, 'I inherited this mess and it’s still going on.' He happened to have inherited an economy that was doing well. And as you said, the GDP grew faster in the last 3 years of Obama than it did in the first year under Trump. Your other facts are right as well. The declining unemployment rates, the low rates for African Americans, this has nothing to do with Donald Trump. This is a continuation of a trend that’s been going on for a while."
