MATTHEWS: "There's a free choice involved here. Donald Trump had to choose between apologizing for an unfortunate word. All people make mistakes. He could have said I meant poor countries in great economic difficulty. He could have said anything except that word because he made fun of the people of those countries. Or by denying it, he's taken away the chance to apologize for it. He's stuck with it. This is going down in history books. This word is now attached to the Republican Party.
