Sahil Kapur: Trump’s ‘Going to Motivate a Lot of Democrats to Show Up’ in 2018 at the Ballot Box

‘The president remains more popular among Republican voters than almost any down ballot candidate in the Senate or House is going to be’

EXCERPT:

KAPUR: "He is going to be an asset to Republicans in terms of mobilizing their base and getting them out. He remains more popular among Republican voters than almost any down ballot candidate in the Senate or the House is going to be. But with an approval rating in the mid- to high 30s where he seems to be stuck, that is certainly not going to be an asset for Republican candidates in the general election. He’s going to motivate a lot of Democrats to show up. Constituencies that I’m keeping my eye on right now are the Obama/Trump crossover voter, which they were surprisingly many in 2016, and the Democrat who wasn't motivated to turn out in 2016. Are they going to show up this time? The idea, the theory of a President Donald Trump wasn’t enough to turn them out, maybe the reality of it will be. At least that's what Democrats are betting on. That's what they need to pull this off."
