NBC’s Welker: Trump’s Tweet on Huma Abedin ‘Underscores’ Extent to Which the Russia Probe Is Getting Under His Skin

‘Today this tweet really aimed at trying to turn the page, trying to say, look, forget about the Russia probe, focus on what is really important’

EXCERPT:

JACKSON: "Kristen, I want to stick to the topic more on the president’s agenda coming up. But I've got to ask you too about the tweet he sent this morning that is raising a lot of eyebrows. Apparently, we don’t know this, but he could be watching 'Fox & Friends' today, because he's now tweeting about something that was on covered on the show. Fill us in."
WELKER: "Well, bottom line, this underscores the extent to which the Russia probe is still getting under the president’s skin, Hallie. Today this tweet really aimed at trying to turn the page, trying to say, 'Look, forget about the Russia probe, focus on what's really important. Go after my political rivals.' He tweeted, 'Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember, sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Department must finally act? Also on Comey & others.' Not the first time he’s called for the Justice Department to investigate Hillary Clinton and her allies. One of the few times we've heard him refer to the deep state though."
JACKSON: "Yeah."
WELKER: "And those e-mails that he mentioned from Huma Abedin those were released last week after a freedom of information act request. But they are the same e-mails, Hallie, that the FBI said it was reviewing at the end of the 2016 race and ultimately determined didn’t rise to a criminal level. So a lot here. And the president clearly trying to turn the page away from the Russia probe, even as he and his top aides here trying to focus on his agenda as well, Hallie."
