At this afternoon’s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders mixed it up with several reporters over President Donald Trump’s recent “fake news” attacks on reporters and media outlets over corrections to reports and tweets. Trump has called for reporters to be fired over mistakes while Sanders asserted that some reports were made to deliberately mislead the public.

During today’s broadcast of CNN’s The Lead, anchor Jake Tapperdinged the White House for its position by highlighting the numerous times Trump has personally pushed conspiracies, such as birtherism, and obviously false information.

“You might find it hard to believe, but the Trump White House today said it is wrong when people put out information they know to be incorrect in an attempt to mislead the public,” Tapper declared. “That’s right, the White House run by the president who came to political prominence by promoting the lie that the first African-American president was born in Africa is finding time to take issue with those who mislead people.”
