Cameron to Scots: Don’t Vote for Independence ‘Just To Give the Effing Tories a Kick’

‘I care for my country more than my party’

Scottish Independence: Don't vote Yes just to give the 'effing Tories' a kick, says David Cameron (Telegraph)

David Cameron has pledged to stay on as Prime Minister if Scotland becomes independent but urged voters not to break up the union just to give the "effing Tories a kick".

In an passionate address in Edinburgh, Mr Cameron said that he will remain Prime Minister in the event of a Yes vote to "make that [independence] happen"

But an emotional Mr Cameron at one point appeared close to tears as he spoke about the "heartbreak" he would feel if Scotland voted for independence.

He said: "If Scotland votes for separation that would have to be respected by the rest of the United Kingdom. And as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom I would have to make that happen.
