Sen. Cruz: ‘Tax Reform Needs to Cut Taxes for Everybody’

‘We’ve got a lot of work to do’

EXCERPT:

CRUZ: "One of the challenges of tax reform is if you're reducing rates under the current approach in the House they're paying for it by eliminating exemptions, that makes it in many ways more difficult to pass. One of the real virtues of repealing the individual mandate. Number one every Republican in the Senate has voted to repeal the individual mandate, 100 percent of us. But number two to $400 billion in revenue. If you're trying to make this work makes it much easier to make it work particularly if that money is directed to lowering individual rates. Listen much of the pushback you're seeing, to the House plan right now, the business side is terrific but there are some tax payers who are losing exemptions, particularly in some high tax states, like New York or California, that could conceivably be paying higher taxes. I think that is a mistake. I think tax reform needs to cut taxes for everybody."
