ESPN Airs Important Update on Michael Sam’s NFL Showering Habits (Mediaite)

Michael Sam, who will likely become the first openly-gay man to play in the NFL this fall, is currently practicing with the rest of his teammates at the St. Louis Rams training camp. But in addition to how he’s faring on the field, ESPN is also reporting on Sam’s locker room activity, or lack thereof.

During a recent SportsCenter report, Josina Anderson revealed that she had spoken to multiple Rams players, who told her Sam has not yet been spotted in the locker room showers.

While defensive tackle Kendall Langford called Sam “just one of the guys,” another unnamed defensive player told Anderson that Sam is “respecting our space” by avoiding the showers when other players are present. Meanwhile, Langford and linebacker Alec Ogletree told her that they did not know if Sam was intentionally avoiding the showers and were “not tracking that.”

Earlier this year, the sports world briefly panicked after Sam was shown kissing and celebrating with his boyfriend on camera after finding out he’d been drafted. Like that “incident,” a football player showering is not something ESPN and the rest of the media seemed to care much about until that player was gay.
