MSNBC: U.S. Loses 33,000 Jobs in the Month of September

‘However, don’t read too much into that because these numbers were likely heavily distorted by the double hurricanes’

EXCERPT:

EISEN: "Yes, we actually saw a decline in jobs during the month in September, down 33,000. However, don’t read too much into that because these numbers were likely heavily distorted by the double hurricanes that we saw, Hurricane Harvey and then Hurricane Irma which came right in the middle of when these numbers were taken. So down 33,000 jobs, that was the first decline in job creation that we’ve actually seen since back in 2010. There are some snippets of good news here in this report if you dig beneath that ugly headline. For instance, wages rose half a percent. We haven’t seen a number like that in a long time. That’s encouraging. It means that we saw 2.9 percent wage increase from September this year — from September of last year. So, wages better. Now, I will say that could also be a little bit distorted by the hurricane."
