Earlier this week, the Trump administration finally revealed details about its tax plan, and it revealed that the wealthiest Americans would benefit greatly, the bottom third wouldn’t benefit at all, and the middle class would see very modest tax cuts. However, despite this being outlined in the proposal, President Donald Trump told reporters that he wouldn’t personally benefit at all from the plan.

During today’s broadcast of MSNBC Live with Velshi and Ruhle, hosts Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle welcomed on Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) to discuss the plan. And after letting him sell the proposal a bit, the duo grilled Griffith on Trump’s insistence that this plan doesn’t benefit him and the rich.

“Before we go, one thing we would love for you to reconcile, the president has said over and over this plan is not going to help him,” Ruhle stated. “This is not going to help him, ‘Believe me.’ But by our calculations, it 100% helps the president and his family. I don’t begrudge him for it, but we do call it a lie.”

After Griffith tried to fall back into a talking point about the plan helping all Americans, Ruhle interrupted him and told him that wasn’t what she was asking.

“I’m asking you, does this help the rich, and if so, why is our president lying about that?” Ruhle pressed.

The GOP lawmaker went back to touting how much the proposal helps everyone while stating that the plan does indeed have tax cuts for the middle class, leading both Velshi and Ruhle to tag team on him, refuting his claims.

Towards the end of the segment, Ruhle and Velshi again confronted the Republican congressman on Trump’s claims that he won’t benefit from the reform plan, despite clear evidence that he definitely will. With both of the hosts pushing him to give his opinion on Trump lying, Griffith answered that he hasn’t “paid attention to everything the president said and I would have to see it in context before” commenting.
