‘The View’ Hosts Falsely Claim ‘It’s Illegal’ To Fire Someone for Their Speech

‘You cannot fire someone for exercising their constitutional rights’

EXCERPT:

HOSTIN: “It’s a silent protest. What’s shocking to me and — of course he’s advocating the firing of an employee for exercising his or her constitutional rights --"
GOLBERG: "Constitutional rights."
HOSTIN: "-- which is illegal.”
GOLDBERG: “Say it again. Say that again, because it’s important.” (Applause)
HOSTIN: “You cannot fire someone for exercising their constitutional rights. It’s illegal."
GOLDBERG: "Right."
HOSTIN: "So to hear him say that, that was appalling to me. But what I -- I want to understand is the anthem protest is not about disrespect to the flag --"
GOLDBERG: "No."
HOSTN: "-- or disrespect to the military or disrespect to the country. The anthem -- our anthem says liberty and justice for all."
UNKNOWN FEMALE: "For all."
HOSTIN: "What Colin Kaepernick was doing was take a knee to highlight the gap between the promises of that anthem and the lived experience of African Americans in this community. (Cheering and Applause) And that’s what it’s about. Nothing more. Nothing more.” [crosstalk] (Applause)
