Fox News: Philando Castile Family Reaches $3 Million Settlement

The family of Philando Castile, who was shot and killed last year by a St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer, has reached a $3 million settlement with the city

EXCERPT:

GALLAGHER: "The city of St. Anthony and lawyers for the Castile family say the settlement means they can now avoid what could have been a very long, drawn-out civil trial. Ten days ago, former St. Anthony police officer, Jeronimo Yanez, was acquitted of second degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Philando Castile following a traffic stop in July of last year. Dashcam video and radio transmission show Castile telling officer Yanez that he has a weapon. Yanez responds by telling him to keep his hands where they are, and then the officer fires six shots inside the car striking Castile five times. During the trial, Officer Yanez claimed Castille was reaching for his loaded gun, but Castile's girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter was also inside the car. The girlfriend who streamed the aftermath live on Facebook claims Castile was not reaching for the weapon. Despite his acquittal, Xanez is no longer a police officer. And the Castile family released a statement that reads in part, quote, 'No amount of money could ever replace Philando. With resolution of the claims the family will continue to deal with their loss through the important work of the Philando Castile Relief Foundation.'"
