Dave Brat to MSNBC: It’s Not Fair to Say Millions Will Lose Health Coverage Under GOP Plans

‘100 percent of people under communism couldn’t eat any food but they did have health care coverage’

EXCERPT:

MELVIN: "But we can all acknowledge that there are still going to be millions of people under either the House plan or the Senate plan who lose their coverage, who don’t have coverage. It’s just a question of how many people at this point. Is that fair to say?"
BRAT: "Yeah, I don’t think it is fair to say. I had my governor's school, genius kids the other day about the CBO score and the 20 million minus coverage. And they're quick so I said, 'Imagine the Soviet Union 20 years ago transitioned to a free market. 100 percent of people under communism couldn’t eat any food but they did have health care coverage. What happens if you move towards a free market system?' Everybody in your population loses coverage. So you lose 100 percent coverage. That’s not good, right? But it’s also good if you have a free market system in place where you can finally feed your people and they are 1,000 percent richer 20 years later. And so that’s the truly fair narrative we’ve got to get out."
