Eliot Engel: We Need an Independent Commission to Investigate Trump and Russia, One that He Can’t Fire

ENGEL: “With James Comey, seems to me you never know what you’re going to get. One time he’s saying something days before the election he announced this investigation in Hillary Clinton. Again, Hillary Clinton is convinced that that cost her the election. I think she’s probably right. I don’t know. All I know is there’s a lot of funny stuff going around and the only way we can get at it is to have an independent commission like the 9/11 commission to find out the truth. Find out who knew what and what happened. I think that’s the only way we’ll get it. I hope Congress will move on that forthwith. We put on more in a bill which people are signing, if you get a majority of members signing you can bypass the committee and we’re just hoping that will happen. But the American people have the right to know what’s going on, what has gone on, what’s still going on, and the only you can do that is with an independent commission appointed by the Congress. Wouldn’t have to answer to the executive branch. I’m very glad there’s special counsel but I will tell you the special counsel can be fired by the president. I want an independent commission that the executive cannot such.”
