Gardiner: Manchester Attack a ‘Reminder’ Britain Is ‘at War’ with ‘Islamist Terrorists’

‘There are several thousand Islamists who are under police surveillance at this time’

EXCERPT:

GARDINER: "Well I think the latest terror outrage will cause, you know, tremendous outrage across Great Britain. It's a reminder of the fact that Britain is at war with Islamist terrorists, Islamist extremists. There are several thousand Islamist who are under police surveillance at this time. There are 500 active counterterror investigations in any one day in the United Kingdom. British authorities have prevented at least 13 major terror plots over the last three years. So the scale of the challenge is absolutely vast for the United Kingdom at this stage. In terms of the -- of the election, I’m not sure what the direct impact will be in terms of, you know, voting on June 8th but certainly, of course the Prime Minister, Theresa may, has projected tremendous resolve and determination. But more needs to be done in terms of combating the Islamist terror threat. We saw we need tougher laws in Britain in terms of detaining terror suspects. We need tighter border controls. Brexit due to take place two years from now will strengthen those border controls and make it harder for Islamists to infiltrate in the United Kingdom. And we do need to place, we need the whole country on a war footing in terms of defeating the Islamist terror threat, both at home and abroad. This is a war to defend our civilization, to defend our freedom against monstrously evil threat."
