Ben Cardin: ‘There Is No Good Military End’ to the North Korea Situation

‘I think the only way this comes to a happy ending is if North Korea changes its course’

EXCERPT:

CARDIN: "I’m hoping to hear from the President his strategy, what is his game plan in order to prevent North Korea from continuing down this path and to avoid a military conflict. There is no good military end to this situation. So how do we change the equation with North Korea? What I would suggest is, 'Look, you've got to use economic pressure.' What North Korea wants is economic relief and they want security. Working with China, we can deal with those two issues if China will be more aggressive with North Korea. So how is the United States using our leadership in the world to change the equations in North Korea so that we can get the inspectors on the ground, we can freeze their current program, and ultimately prevent North Korea from being a nuclear power. That's what we need to do.”
