Jackie Speier: ‘I’m Not Surprised at All’ Russia Targeted Carter Page to Use Infiltrate the Campaign

SPEIER: "It’s very consistent with Russia’s spy activities. They obviously had more than a one-point plan when they tried to interfere with our elections. It wasn’t just hacking into the DNC. It was working in conjunction, conceivably. That’s what’s being investigated right now with the trump campaign. And maybe to some extent co-opting campaign staff or supporters through that relationship that they were building. I think Carter page is someone that we know from open source that has had relationships in Russia for a very long time and has been very engaged with gas prong, a very potent and powerful gas company that exists in Russia. So I’m not surprised at all that he might have become a target by Russia to use him. The question is, was he used wittingly or unwittingly, and that’s certainly something the FBI will look into."
