Biography
Ms. Stefanie Brown James, a member since 2016, is the CEO and founding partner of Vestige Strategies, LLC–a community engagement firm specializing in grassroots and civic engagement strategies. Through her role at Vestige, Ms. Brown James builds engagement programs for campaigns, causes and companies. She is also the co-founder of The Collective PAC–a political action committee designed to build Black political power across the United States.
In 2012, Ms. Brown James served as the director of the National African American Vote, Obama for America Campaign. In this position, she organized the national strategy to engage African American leaders and voters to register and re-elect President Barack Obama. Formerly the NAACP national field director and national director of the NAACP Youth & College Division, Ms. Brown James developed and administered the national field organizing strategy for the association’s 2,200 branches and youth units in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
A 2004 graduate of Howard University, Ms. Brown James is the founder and executive director of Brown Girls Lead, Inc., a leadership development organization for Black women focused on cultivating positive social change on college campuses and in communities across the U.S. Since its establishment at Howard University in 2011, over 200 women have benefited from the instruction and guidance they’ve received through the Brown Girls Lead Academy.
A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Ms. Brown James was named as one of Campaign and Elections magazine’s 2014 “50 Influential People” and was recognized on The Grio and The Root’s top 100 lists. She is a 2011 inductee of the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame, Bedford Senior High School in Bedford Heights, Ohio. Ms. Brown James’ husband and business partner, Quentin James, is also a Howard University graduate. They have an amazing son, Carter.
