NBC’s Richard Engel: ISIL Is a ‘Global Problem’ With Ambitions to Attack America

‘Many Americans may have forgotten about this, or want to forget about this militant group, but this militant group thinks a lot about the United States’

Engel: ISIL Is a ‘Global Problem’ (Washington Free Beacon)

Richard Engel, NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent, appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball Tuesday night to discuss the impending threat of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

He cautioned that ISIL has “land, weapons, and ambition” before revealing that several counterterrorism officials told MSNBC that the threat from ISIL to United States’ interests is “extremely high.” Officials also said that ISIL is developing advanced bomb making skills and creating a list of foreign suicide bombers who could potentially target America and Europe.

“I don’t want to be alarmist…but I’ve spoken to many officials…and it [ISIL] is very dangerous. It has thousands of members, hundreds at least with European passports, and it is extremely ambitious. It is not simply interested in carving out a little mini state…. It has global ambitions. This is not just a regional problem, this is a global problem,” Engel warned.
