CNN Guest Slams Trump’s ‘P.T. Barnum Foreign Policy’: Mother of All Distractions

‘If you don’t have a diplomatic strategy to back [military action] up, you don’t get anywhere’

Mother of All Distractions: New Day Guest Slams Trump’s ‘P.T. Barnum Foreign Policy’ (Mediaite

CNN’s Chris Cuomo was hosting New Day on Monday, when one of his guests brought back the comparisons between President Donald Trump and 19th century master showman P.T. Barnum.

Cuomo spoke with William Hartung, director of the Arms and Security Project, who wrote a recent column about how Trump’s recent activities regarding the Middle East and North Korea were part of his attempt to distract people from his failing policies. Hartung called Trump’s approach the “P.T. Barnum foreign policy,” saying the president was trying to project toughness without presenting any kind of long-term international strategy.

Cuomo pushed back on Hurting by asking whether Trump’s current strategy was just about sending a message to the world. Former brigadier general Anthony J. Tata followed up by saying that if there was any “distraction,” it was Barack Obama‘s “lack of interest in foreign policy,” that allowed international problems to escalate.
