Charlie Sykes on ObamaCare Repeal: A ‘Humiliating Defeat’ for Trump

‘Very few presidents are defeated on their signature piece of legislation right out of the box’

SIMMONS: “What does it tell us about the president’s ability to govern at this stage, whether he has managed at this point to put together, if you like, a coalition that allows him to get things done.”

SYKES: “One of the things that was most striking is — that he really didn’t understand that making deals in real estate was going to be different than making political deals. Really. Who knew? Very few presidents are defeated on their signature piece of legislation right out of the box. I would think that Republicans are looking around and the daggers are all out. One of the things they have to realize is that Donald Trump’s deal-making skills are perhaps not transferrable that he was not the closer when it came to the big promise that they’ve been making for seven years.”
