Flashback Montage: Remember How the Media Lost Their Minds over Nunes?

On Wednesday the chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence announced what would typically be explosive news: That at the height of the 2016 campaign season, the Obama Administration circulated captured communications of Trump staffers — possibly even Trump himself — around the federal government. The congressman who announced the development, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said the communications were picked up using intelligence tools meant for foreign targets, and officials in the Obama Administration "unmasked" the names of those whose communications were being disseminated, meaning their identities were clear to anyone who received them.

One can imagine what the media would say had the Bush Administration been exposed doing the same to Obama staffers in 2008.

But rather than leading every broadcast with this stunning development, the media instead turned on Nunes. Angrily.

Why?

Because Nunes’ revelation did not immediately verify every aspect of President Trump’s non-infamous tweets from a weeks earlier, these revelations were treated more as an annoyance than blockbuster breaking news. 

Not only were TV talking heads racing to mock Nunes for briefing the press with what he learned, they also suggested he's not even fit for his office.
