Richard Haass on Trump: ‘When You’re in a Hole Stop Digging’

‘We know what wiretapping means’

BRZEZINSKI: “Okay. Richard Haass, what do you — how do you assess what the President said?
HAASS: “Politically, my first instinct is, when you’re in a hole, stop digging."
BRZEZINSKI: “Right. Do you feel that he is digging there or that there is —"
HAASS: “Digging.”
BRZEZINSKI: “ — maybe a way to explain this in a different way that wiretapping means other things?"
HAASS: “We know what wiretapping means. Again, this is not how he wants to be spending his political capital. It should be on reviving or somehow saving what's going on with health care. You have any number of international challenges this week alone. You've got the Chancellor of Germany coming in for a critical visit. This just seems to me to be so defensive and so off message and it just reinforces the sense of an administration that's lost its focus.”
