Kevin Brady in 2009: Voters Expect Us to Read and Study the Bill Before We Vote on It

‘Prior to voting on this massive health care bill each member will certify the congressional record that he or she has read the entire bill’

EXCERPT:

BRADY: "This amendment is the genesis that comes from a lot of people in our district to -- who don't have very high expectations of Congress, but a major bills like this they expect this to do two things. One, to read and study the bill before we vote on it, and then give them time to bill -- read and study the bill, as well. What this amendment does it just expresses the sense of Congress. In this committee each member that prior to voting on this massive health care bill, each member will certify the congressional record that he or she has read the entire bill. And it's a bill we publicly available online for 72 hours prior to vote."
