Mark Sanford: My Advice Is Not to ‘Outlast’ the Protesters But ‘Give Them Your Ear’

‘There is a whole lot of value in going to hear a conflicting viewpoint or a very different viewpoint’

EXCERPT:

BREAM: "Is your advice just to stick around and outlast the protesters?"
SANFORD: "I'm not saying it's outlast, but I'm saying give me your ear. You know, ultimately people want to be heard. And initially, it’s not about a conversation, it’s about people scoring points. But as time wears on, you know, there emerge certain patterns in terms of certain things that they’re trying to say and there are certain patterns that I was trying to say. That give and take is the Socratic process and hopefully truth falls out at the bottom."
