CNN’s David Gergen: One Reason Democrat Boycott Grew Quickly is Lack of Diversity in Trump’s Cabinet (Mediaite)

After President-elect Donald Trump announced that Sonny Perduewas his choice as Secretary of Agriculture, it was noted that this would be the first time since 1988 that the Cabinet wouldn’t feature at least one Hispanic. During a panel discussion on CNN this afternoon, political analyst David Gergen pointed to the lack of diversity in the Trump Administration as one possible cause that dozens of Congressional Democrats jumped on board the boycott of Trump’s inauguration.

After anchor Wolf Blitzer pointed out that of the 15 traditional well-known Cabinet spots, 13 are filled by men and the ethnic makeup includes one black, one Asian and no Hispanics, Gergen compared Trump’s choices with those of his predecessors.

“We’ve had two presidents in a row, actually three, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama who all believed in diversity,” Gergen said. “And built Cabinets in which white men were the minority.”
