Valerie Jarrett Blames Chicago Violence on Lack of Gun Control

‘We have a national problem in addition to what we’re seeing on the streets of our hometown’

JARRETT: "He spent a lot of time last week when he had a round robin with five of the Chicago local television stations and each one of them asked about this. He addressed this. He expressed how heartbreaking it is for him to have this epidemic happening in his hometown, how this is a challenging situation, that the federal government through his Justice Department has provided both financial resources and technical assistance to try to help the city of Chicago stem this terrible, terrible epidemic of gun violence. But it goes back again to the broader issue, what are we going to do to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people. That’s not just a problem in Chicago. We lose 32 million Americans a year to gun violence, two-thirds of whom commit suicide. So we have a national problem in addition to what we’re seeing on the streets of our hometown."
