Santorum: I Really Don’t Understand the Republican Position on Minimum Wage

‘Let’s not make this argument that we’re for the blue collar guy, but we’re against any minimum wage increase ever. It just makes no sense’

SANTORUM: "This is one they don't get. If the Republicans want to say that we are against minimum wage, then go out to make the argument to the American public, and the 80 percent of the public who believes we should have a minimum wage, but they are making an argument of why we should not get an increase. Right now -- again, according to the numbers I've seen -- minimum wage covers about 2 percent of workers. Historically, it is 7- to 9 percent. And so what I have said is -- and I have argued it in Congress -- we should try to keep it in 7 percent range to have a true -- "
TODD: "To raise the number, whatever it is that gets you there."
SANTORUM: "Whatever the number to get you to 7 percent. And then if it falls back, you know, you have to look at the situation. If we're in an economic crisis, you may not want to raise it. If things are getting better you probably do want to raise it. But let's not make this argument that we're for the blue collar guy, but we're against every minimum wage increase ever. It just makes no sense."
